If you are a retailer and your name appears on this blog, I would suggest that you meet with your accountant and check to see if you have any open, unpaid or outstanding invoices. PAY THEM!

I suggest getting a credit card number as a guarantee to COD payments when you are just starting to work with new accounts. I have had COD payment checks bounce and it is a huge hassle. Having them fill out a simple form authorizing their cc be charged in the event the check doesn't clear gets you respect and minimizes the hassle. Some accounts that have bounced checks are:
Blue Bag, NY
Exhibit, Chicago
Na'Pali, LA

I had net 30 terms with this boutique and when the owner was 15 days late she had the nerve to insult me over her lack of inventory control. she told me that I need to call her if i wanted to get paid- played a game of "I'll write you a check" but was never around when I came to pick it up and at one point I was not allowed in the store- whatever! when I did get a check it bounced. Then I investigated her further and found out that she had been convicted for writing bad chacks and assualt. make sure that you run a credit report before accepting terms. A criminal history would not hurt either! The store is:
Star- Won Fashions in Baltimore, MD

When I did finally get a check over two months later it bounced. I would not have had such a big problem with it if the merchandise didn't move but nost of the pieces sold within two weeks. Then I investigated her further and found out that she had been convicted for writing bad chacks and assualt! Make sure that you run a credit report before accepting terms. A criminal background check would not hurt either! You never know who your are working with. The store is:

Oh.. my God...

I'd just delivered a shipment to Blue Bag, New York about 2 month ago.

They'd been giving me all kinds of excuses.. they have to pay European designers first.. & will pay American designers shortly after. ..being sick..... I'm not the only one not been paid... they don't write checks... they do wire transfer only, so I need to gather my bank info forT/T....

.. ignoring my emails... not picking up my calls

.. Silly me... I bought their stories.

I'm so so angry about the way they do business...

I'll send them a registered mail along with legal actions taken!!

Designers~~ Watch out!!
Blue Bags doesn't pay the bills!!

I must post about a store that has had NUMEROUS complaints with all designers who I have met that have worked with them:

TRES JOLIE in LA

Glenda ordered from me and another fellow jewelry designer at a trade show. It was net 30. She did not pay and then returned both of our merchanidise for no apparent reason and without calling first. Nothing was wrong with the jewelry. She even called to yell at me when she had the box returned to her because she had the wrong addresss for the return. And she did not have an RA. She screamed at me!!! Who does that???
Another jewelry designer I know consigned with her and she still owes her a large amount of money.
Another handbag designer also was paid extremely late and for only part of her delivery and then had damaged bags returned.
Another jewelry designer was paid 6 months late.
She preys on up and coming designers who have seen her in Lucky and Instyle who do not know what a unprofessional fraud she truly is. I have never seen so many angry designers with a store.
